Loftus Receives Scientific Freedom Award

Elizabeth LoftusElizabeth Loftus is this year’s recipient of the Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for her pioneering research on human memory, which has had a profound impact on the administration of justice in the United States and abroad.

The AAAS Scientific Freedom and Responsibility Award was established in 1981 to honor scientists and engineers whose exemplary actions, often taken at significant personal cost, have served to foster scientific freedom and responsibility. Eligible nominees are scientists and engineers who have acted to protect the public's health, safety, or welfare; or to focus public attention on potentially serious impacts of science and technology on society by their responsible participation in public policy debates; or to establish important new precedents in social responsibility or in defending the professional freedom of scientists and engineers.
